About us

The Aleksander Kwaśniewski “Amicus Europae” Foundation was established in 2004. The overarching mission of the foundation is to promote European integration and support dialogue and reconciliation processes to resolve political and regional conflicts in Europe.

The “Amicus Europae” Foundation cooperates with international and national foundations and associations, including the Victor Pinchuk Foundation (VPF), Yalta European Strategy (YES), Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS), Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES), Concordia, Global Empowerment Mission (GEM), “Kuźnica” Association, Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation, Visehrad Insight/Res Publica Nowa, GlobSec, Atlantic Council, in.Europa, and many others.

The foundation’s most important goals include:

  • Supporting efforts to build civil society, the rule of law, and strengthen democratic values;

  • Promoting political and constitutional achievements of the Republic of Poland;

  • Promoting the idea of a common Europe and popularizing knowledge about the European Union;

  • Developing cooperation and integration with the eastern neighbors of the European Union, with particular emphasis on Ukraine and Belarus;

  • Support for countries aspiring to membership in European and Euro-Atlantic organizations;

  • Promotion of cooperation with the United States of America, especially in the field of international security and development of the world economy;

  • Integration of national and religious minorities into local communities;

  • Promoting knowledge of the multinational and cultural diversity and history of our country and region;

  • Popularizing the Olympic idea and sports.

Projects

Ignacy Daszyński Center

In June 2022, the Aleksander Kwaśniewski Foundation “Amicus Europae” and the Ignacy Daszyński Center Foundation (CID) decided to integrate their activities. CID became a dedicated project of the “Amicus Europae” Foundation, retaining the current profile of activities of a social democratic think tank.
CID was established in November 2011 in Warsaw. The center focuses on the research of contemporary public life. It organizes conferences, seminars, and debates and conducts publishing activities.
The center has been created and is managed by experts and activists from young generations of the Polish progressive left.
CID has branches in Warsaw, Krakow, Gdansk and Opole.
Since 2017, it has been a full Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) member.

Ireneusz Bil – doctor of economic sciences, a specialist in the field of energy markets and energy security, graduate and long-time lecturer at the Warsaw School of Economics (Institute of World Economy) and the graduate National Security Study (SBN) at the University of Warsaw. Member of the Scientific Council of the European Parliament Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS), the Council of the Vienna Center for Cooperation and Peace and the pro-European think-tank in.Europa in Warsaw. Advisor to Polish and international institutions and companies in the area of energy markets, author of dozens of publications on international economic relations, energy markets, international security, and European integration.

Jacek Kluczkowski – diplomat and publicist. In the 1980s, a journalist for, among others, the ITD weekly and Sztandar Młodych, later – in 1995-2001 – an associate and advisor to President Aleksander Kwasniewski, 2001-2003 president of the government’s “Know How” Foundation (now the International Solidarity Foundation), then head of advisors to Prime Minister Marek Belka, in 2004, he was coordinator of the group preparing international mediation during the Orange Revolution in Kyiv. From 2005 to 2015, I was the ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Ukraine and then to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. 2017-2020 member of the Poland-Ukraine Partnership Forum at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland. Currently a member of the Conference of Ambassadors of the Republic of Poland (from 2019), the Program Council of the Economic Forum (from 2021) and a member of the Board of the Eastern European Democratic Center (from 2022).

Aleksandra Łaszewska – Master of Law at Leon Kozminski Academy in Warsaw, during her studies she was actively involved in the Erasmus Student Network. From 2013 to 2017, Assistant in the Office of Aleksander Kwasniewski, President of the Republic of Poland from 1995 to 2005 until 2021 Director of the Office. In 2014, she completed the Straniak Academy for Democracy and Human Rights course in Montenegro, and in 2019, she completed the Diplomatic Protocol course at the Open University of Warsaw. Currently in the position of an expert on cooperation with the Management Board and Supervisory Board of mBank SA. She has been associated with the Amicus Europae Foundation since 2013.

Wojciech Olejniczak – Doctor of Economics, Minister of Agriculture in the governments of Leszek Miller and Marek Belka, responsible for introducing Polish agriculture and rural areas to the Common Agricultural Policy system. From 2005 to 2008, he was chairman of the Democratic Left Alliance. He began his social activities in the student government at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. He was elected chairman of the Student Parliament at SGGW. And later became chairman of the Student Parliament of the Republic of Poland. He graduated with a degree in economics from SGGW. In 2001, he obtained a parliamentary seat. In the Sejm, he worked in the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, the European Commission, and the Committee on Foreign Affairs. He was an MP of the fourth, fifth, and sixth terms—Deputy Speaker of the Sejm of the 5th term. From 2013 to 2016, he was president of the Polish Triathlon Association and a member of the board of the Polish Olympic Committee.

Bartosz Rydliński – Doctor of Social Sciences in the field of political science. Co-founder of the Ignacy Daszyński Center, assistant professor at the Institute of Political Science and Administration at Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw, and Polish Teachers’ Union member. A recipient of a Carnegie Endowment for International Peace fellowship, he was a visiting researcher at Georgetown University in 2014 and 2022. He is a member of international analysis and research networks: Younger Generation Leaders Network on Euro-Atlantic Security (YGLN) at the European Leadership Network (UK) and Fresh Look at Eastern European Trends (FLEET) at the FES Regional Office for Cooperation and Peace in Europe (Austria). He has been associated with the “Amicus Europae” Foundation since 2008.

Andrzej Szejna – politician, lawyer, and legal advisor, Deputy Minister of Economy, Labor, and Social Policy (2003), Deputy Minister in the Office of the Committee for European Integration (2004), Member of the European Parliament of the 6th term, Vice-Chairman of the Delegation of the Sejm and Senate of Poland to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (2019-2023). Member of the Sejm for the ninth and tenth terms, Vice-Chairman of the Democratic Left Alliance and the New Left. In 2022, he became vice-chairman of the Party of European Socialists. Since 2023, he has been Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
